Have you decided to dedicate part of your children’s day to learning about nutrition? Has that decision left you in need of a handful of fruit and vegetable themed games? If so, you may want to consider letting them play one of the following:

Tossed Fruit Salad

Perhaps your children would enjoy playing the tossed fruit salad game. In order to set-up the activity, you’ll need to obtain a series of felt fruit, four bowls (large), paper chef’s hats and a good size blanket. Just in case your classroom is lacking in supplies, the felt fruit and paper hats are often available for purchase through specialty stores like the Sunmoon Trading Center and The Land of Nod. The bowls and blanket, on the other hand, may be purchased at most major department stores.

Once you have those items on hand, place the bowls at each corner of your classroom. Next, designate four children to be the resident chefs. Give them the chef’s hats to wear. Then position each one in front of a separate bowl. Continue the set-up process by spreading out the blanket onto your classroom’s floor. Afterward, dump all of the felt fruit into the center of the blanket. Then ask the other children to stand around the blanket in an orderly fashion.

Proceed by instructing those children to grab the blanket’s edges and lift it into the air. While the blanket is in the air, ask the kids to move it up and down until the fruits starts to bounce off. As the fruits bounce off of the blanket, the resident chef’s must catch it. Once they catch the fruit, they have to return it to their bowl. The child that manages to fill his or her bowl first with the widest variety of fruits wins the game.

Top Classroom Chefs

Top classroom chef is another game to consider playing with your kids. However, before you can play the game, you’ll need to procure the Education website’s play food set. It consists of a plate and food templates. Use the templates to create a series of laminated cut-outs. You’ll also want to make or buy paper chef’s hats.

Next, divide the children up into teams. You can make the teams as big or as small as you like. Once the teams are established, give each one a supply of chef’s hats and a set of play food. Continue by instructing each team to fill one or several plates with nutritious meals in a set amount of time. After the time elapses, check out what the kids came up with. The team that managed to create the best meals should be deemed the winner.
